GIF Gallery

The aim of the GIF Gallery is to promote and publicise digital art.

Internationally renowned artists create artworks (animated GIFs) that mostly deal with topics from Switzerland.

Current exhibitions

Albert Anker

Albert Anker (1831 - 1910), is one of the most popular painters in Switzerland. Artists are inspired by his works and create animated GIFs.

Smoke on the water

1971 a fire breaks out during a Frank Zappa concert in Montreux, Switzerland. This event inspired the rock band Deep Purple to write the lyrics for the song “Smoke on the water”. Artists from many different countries create digital artworks on this theme - exactly 53 years later.

Past exhibitions

HOMMAGE à PAUL KLEE

25 artists have explored the person and works of Paul Klee. The result, new digital art, could be admired at the Kulturmuseum Bern from 22 March to 6 April 2024. Many reinterpretations come in the unmistakable style of the artists. Some specialize in pixel art or glitch art, others make skilful use of artificial intelligence.

ZEITGEIST

Artists in this exhibition attempt to explore and visualise the ZEITGEIST.
ZEITGEIST summarises the cultural pulse of a particular epoch. It is the lens through which we perceive and interpret the world.

Heidi AI

Heidi, the story by Johanna Spyri about a girl who lives with her grandfather in the Swiss Alps, is world-renowned. Artists create a new version of Heidi and her friends with the help of Artificial Intelligence.

SCHERENSCHNITT

Traditional and historical silhouettes/paper-cuttings reinterpreted and animated.

NIESEN

Niesen, the swiss pyramid, is alive. It breathes, yawns, rests and blinks. Digital artists from all over the world have brought the Niesen to life in animated animations.
